A pedestrian died after he was critically injured in a traffic accident just before 9 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Owen Drive and Boone Trail, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
Eric Desean Jones,ย 26, of the 2000 block of Rustic Trail, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition, a news release said. He later died of his injuries.
Nathan Echols, 35,, of the 2000 block of Stornoway Court, was driving a 2013 GMC Terrain SUV at the time of the crash, a news release said.. ย
According to the preliminary investigation, Jones appeared to be stumbling in the roadway and stepped off the median into oncoming traffic when he was struck, a news release said.
Echols remained on the scene. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Tuesday.
All outbound lanes of Owen Drive from Boone Trail toward Phillies Circle were closed while the Police Departmentโs Traffic Unit investigated the crash. The lanes were reopened about 11:30 p.m. Monday, a news release saidย
