Municipal elections are fast approaching in Cumberland County. Here’s a brief guide for keeping important election details on your schedule. 

Voter registration information

Voter registration deadlines in North Carolina come 25 days prior to elections. This year, voter registration for the primary election ends on Sept. 12. Voter registration deadline for the municipal election ends on Oct. 10. You can find more information about local elections and register to vote on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website

To register to vote in North Carolina elections, you will need to provide:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Citizenship status 
  • ID number from your N.C. driver’s license, other North Carolina identification credentials or the last four digits of your social security number 
  • Your residential and mailing addresses

Important dates to remember 

  • Sept. 12: Primary election voter registration ends 
  • Sept. 18: Early voting for primary election begins 
  • Sept. 23: Last day to request an absentee ballot to be sent by mail 
  • Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.: Early voting for primary election ends 
  • Oct. 7:
    • Primary election day/all absentee ballots must be received no later than 7:30 p.m.
    • Early voting site will close at 3 p.m.
  • Oct. 10: Voter registration deadline for municipal election ends 
  • Oct. 16: Early voting for municipal election begins 
  • Oct. 21: Last day to request absentee ballot for municipal election 
  • Nov. 1:
    • Early voting for municipal election ends 
    • Early voting sites will close at 3 p.m. 
  • Nov. 4: Municipal election day/all absentee ballots must be received no later than 7:30 p.m. 

Early voting sites 

There will be one early voting site open for the Fayetteville City Primary Election, located at the Cumberland County Board of Elections, 227 Fountainhead Lane, Suite 101. 

For the municipal election, three early voting sites will be open:

  • Cumberland County Board of Elections at 227 Fountainhead Lane, Suite 101
  • Cliffdale Recreation Center at 6404 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville
  • Kiwanis Recreation Center at 352 Devers St. Fayetteville
