Good morning. Cumberland County is home to an estimated 52,831 veterans, the largest population of veterans in the state. And with its proximity to Fort Bragg, the biggest military installation in the country by population, the Fayetteville area is widely known as a military community.
This year, residents will find plenty of opportunities in Cumberland County to celebrate and commemorate the contributions of veterans and military service members. Read our lead story for a list of local Veterans Day events.
Welcome to CityView Today. The Cumberland County Veterans Council held its 2025 Veterans Day Parade earlier this month in downtown Fayetteville. Supporters came together for the tribute of military service in the Fayetteville community. Check out our photo gallery below. Plus, in honor of Veterans Day, we’re sharing a story from The War Horse, an award-winning nonprofit newsroom that deeply and thoughtfully covers military issues. More than 2 million kids live with a disabled veteran at home. Calls are growing to extend more support to these ‘hidden helpers.’ Hear the stories of three of those caregivers below, including from a family in North Carolina.
