Autumn brings a host of ways to get out and enjoy cooler weather, indoor entertainment and, of course, a walk with the zombies. Check out these options.
Step right up for the 2023 edition of the North Carolina State Fair. The annual fall celebration opens Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 22. Tradition will rule as the fair brings amusement rides, agricultural and food competitions, game booths and, of course, that incomparable and inventive fair food. The fairgrounds are at 1025 Blue Ridge Road in west Raleigh. For ticket information, call 919-821-7400 or go to ncstatefair.org.
Celebrate the magic of cinema at the eighth annual Indigo Film Fest on Oct. 13-15 in downtown Fayetteville. Opening night will feature the documentary โ€œBlack Barbie,โ€ which explores the challenges and triumphs of Black women as they strive to have their voices heard. The festival will culminate with peopleโ€™s choice awards voted on by film fans. For ticket information and a schedule of films, go to indigomoonfilmfest.org.
The dogwoods arenโ€™t in bloom, but the fun is for the Dogwood Fall Festival, set for Oct. 20-22 at Festival Park downtown. Hayrides, childrenโ€™s activities and food trucks highlight the festival, capped with live music and an array of vendor booths. On Oct. 22, a classic car, motorcycle and truck show will roll in. Call 910-323-1934 or go to thedogwoodfestival.com for more information.
You were dead wrong if you thought you might skip the 12th annual Zombie Walk and Prom, when the undead of Fayetteville will make their way down Hay Street to Person Street for some bone-chilling Halloween fun. The walk will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 28. Show off your best zombie costume, then roam the streets to check out food trucks, vendors, artists and other performers. Itโ€™s all part of Fourth Friday sponsored by Cool Spring Downtown District. Call 910-223-1089 or go to visitdowntownfayetteville.com for more information.
