Welcome to CityView Today! New year, new me. Or so says the cliché. But in my case, it’s spot on. Today is the start of my third week as editor-in-chief of CityView. It’s been a whirlwind of activity over the last several weeks, from moving back to the South, meeting the new crew, and introducing myself to folks around town. Today, they even gave me the keys to the newsletter. Check out my column for more details.


Also in today’s newsletter: As more families face challenges accessing food, an employee-led initiative from Cumberland County Schools, coupled with community support, helped feed students when they weren’t in school in December. And, school districts across the state are bracing for changes to how they hire international teachers.

🫵🏼 Cumberland County is seeking volunteers to help with its Point-In-Time Count, which takes place over 24 hours beginning Thursday. The count, conducted by the Fayetteville–Cumberland County Continuum of Care on Homelessness, is an annual effort that provides data on the number of people experiencing homelessness. There are two, four-hour volunteer shifts on Thursday beginning at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
