Three shootings in a six-hour period over the weekend killed one person and left five hurt — including a 12-year-old child — in what Fayetteville’s police chief described as a “continuing senseless cycle of violence.”
Chief Kemberlee Braden noted it was the second consecutive weekend with multiple shootings in the city, saying the adult victims were all known to police.
Officers responded after 4 p.m. Saturday to assist Fayetteville State University’s police department with a death investigation after the body of a woman was discovered in the 1300 block of Coley Drive.
Investigators are treating the death as a homicide, according to a news release. No arrests have been made, and the victim has not been identified.
Just a few hours later, officers responded to a distress call near the 6800 block of Cliffdale Road, where three shooting victims — including a 12-year-old — were found inside a car. The child as well as a man and a woman were hospitalized and listed in stable condition Monday, police said.
The third shooting occurred about 9:30 Saturday night. Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Bonanza Drive. A man was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound. Another man was taken by an emergency crew to the hospital and was in stable condition, a news release said. The victim was later identified as 24-year-old Ernest Bullock.
