As early as last year, after finishing second to Greenville Rose in the state 3-A tournament, Terry Sanford boys golf coach Jeff Morehead said his returning players had no trouble with the idea they would be the front runners for this year’s championship. At Foxfire Resort Red Fox Course this week, they went from an embrace to a hammer lock on the title as they cruised to victory.

Teamwork key to success in playoffs for Fayetteville Academy’s girls’ lacrosse
Vin Intini has been affiliated with coaching boys’ and girls’ lacrosse at Fayetteville Academy for more than a decade, but when it comes to pinpointing his best team during that span he doesn’t hesitate. The current crop of girls, who have forged a 15-1 record, occupy the No. 1 spot in his book as they enter the NCISAA Division II state playoffs today with a home match at 4:30 p.m. against Greensboro Day.

Terry Sanford has a rich history in the annals of N.C. High School Athletic Association boys’ golf, with multiple team and individual state championships. The current squad looks to add to that history in the next couple of weeks as it takes the final steps on a road it is hoping will end with the 2023 3-A state title.

Cape Fear golfers hoping to redeem themselves after disappointment last season
Cape Fear’s golf team recently wrapped up the United 8 Conference golf championship, but the Colts have a bigger goal in mind. Since before the 2023 season started, coach Todd Edge said the team’s mission has been to return to the N.C. High School Athletic Association state finals and try to improve on last year’s performance.
