Thousands of people from all walks of life descended on Fayetteville last weekend. They came in all sizes and shapes, all ages. But this wasn’t a sports match they were attending at the Crown Expo Center. It was the 10th edition of Fayetteville Comic Con. They dressed as their favorite characters and were proud to show off those masks or full-blown costumes. On one aisle at the convention center was Batman; on another, Spider-Man; on the next, a “Star Wars” stormtrooper or a member of the Power Rangers. And you couldn’t miss the roughly 8-foot-tall Chewbacca.
Making a big impression: Fayetteville Mustangs saddle up for home opener
Talk about starting off with a bang. The Fayetteville Mustangs made quite a splash in their inaugural game in the National Arena League. The indoor football team went to Orlando on April 8 and not only won but set a league record for points scored in the opening week of the season. They beat the Predators 68-43.
New era begins for Fayetteville Woodpeckers
The Fayetteville Woodpeckers are getting a fresh start as the 2023 Carolina League Class A opener nears. The Woodpeckers, the Houston Astros’ Single-A affiliate that hosts the Carolina Mudcats in the season opener at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Segra Stadium, have a new general manager in Michelle Skinner and a new manager in Ricky Rivera as they try to regroup from a 55-75 record in 2022.
