These students are the Athletes of the Week in Cumberland County based on their standout performance in tennis and football.
Anna Piland, Cape Fear, tennis
Piland returned to the Colt lineup this week after a brief absence because of a bone stress injury. She won three matches at No. 1 singles without losing a single game, two against Douglas Byrd and one against Jack Britt. She helped the Colts improve to 13-1 as they attempt to defend their 3-A state dual-team championship.
Nyzir Bostic, Pine Forest, football
In Pine Forest’s 41-38 win over Terry Sanford, Bostic rushed 18 times for 247 yards and scored two touchdowns. He averaged 13.7 yards per carry. He also completed six of 12 passes for 65 yards, including the game-winning touchdown pass in the contest’s final seconds.
