The Fayetteville Police Department is dispelling rumors circulating on social media about a connection among a series of deaths on Bragg Boulevard.
In a statement released Tuesday, the department said there is no evidence to suggest a correlation among any of the four incidents.
“As detectives wait on information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and conduct their investigations, it is imperative that we not allow social media or other narratives to reach a conclusion that brings fear to our community or disrupts the investigative process,” the statement reads.
In the past three weeks, four bodies have been found on Bragg Boulevard:
- On Oct. 16, Fayetteville police responded to a call regarding skeletal remains in a wooded area near the 3900 block of Bragg Boulevard. The remains were deemed to have been in that location for a while, police said.
- On Oct. 11, the Police Department responded to two separate incidents that led to “two separate and distinct investigations.” Officers responded to the first incident on 1204 Bragg Blvd., where individuals who had been working on the building found a subject in “advanced stages of decomposition.” The building has been vacant for several years, police said. In the second incident, officers responded to the area of Fieldcrest Drive in the Bonnie Doone subdivision where a woman was found deceased in an open field. The investigation has since been ruled a homicide, and detectives are pursuing leads about the incident.
- On Sept. 25, police responded to a report of a deceased person in an area behind the Motel 6 at 3719 Bragg Blvd. Police say the subject appeared to have been in the location for a few days.
The Police Department has said that, in each of the cases, the investigation is ongoing, and the manner and cause of death is to be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
