The city of Fayetteville has won the 2023 Southeast Regional Dam Safety Award for its work on Mirror Lake Dam, according to a city news release.
The Association of State Dam Safety Officials announced the award on July 7.
βThis confirms our public services team is one of the best in the region,β said Director of Public Services Sheila Thomas-Ambat.
The nomination form highlighted restoration and maintenance of Mirror Lake Dam after Hurricane Matthew flooded the area in October 2016, over-topping the dam and washing out Mirror Lake Drive. In August 2017, the city contracted Schnabel Engineering South, which nominated the project for this award.
Schnabel provided the engineering design and construction support to repair the dam and roadway, the release said. Construction was completed in January 2020.
The Regional Dam Safety Award is presented in each of four regions annually. City representatives have been invited to Palm Springs, California, to accept the award on Sept. 18.
