FORT LIBERTY β€” Field artillery units at Fort Liberty are conducting live fire exercises this month that will be heard and felt throughout the area, the Fort Liberty Public Affairs Office said on Friday.

β€œSoldiers will be training on Howitzers and HIMARS (rocket launchers), which can produce loud explosions and reverberations upon detonation,” the news release says.

β€œExercises are underway and will continue through this weekend. Additional dates for live fire training are Feb. 10-13, Feb. 18-21 and Feb. 25-28,” it says.

β€œAlthough this training is necessary to maintain readiness of our nation’s combat forces, we recognize the noise may inconvenience the surrounding public,” the news release says. β€œWhile engaged in simulated combat conditions, all field artillery units will comply with existing requirements prohibiting them from massing fires larger than battalion size between the hours of 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily or from firing during the hours of 10 a.m. to noon on Sundays.

β€œThere will be nighttime firing, as this is essential to maintain force readiness, but the quantity of rounds fired during hours of darkness is reduced.”For more information, or to submit comments to Fort Liberty about the noise, visit this page on the Fort Liberty website: home.army.mil/liberty/noise.
