Freda Kathryn Sanders, 95, of Spring Lake, NC was welcomed home in the early morning of September 25, 2024.
Freda was born to Bill and Dollie Workman on April 28, 1929, in Logan County, Arkansas. She married a career soldier and moved from installation to installation while raising five children. Eventually settling in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg with her Special Forces husband, Freda became an entrepreneur, starting her 60+ year as the owner and operator of Yucca Court Childcare Center and later Ms. Carolyn’s Childcare Center. Always a hard worker, her entry into childcare came at a time when the U.S. was heavily involved in Southeast Asia and her husband was deployed for long periods. She opened initially in her home in Ponderosa with only $35.00, a highchair, and a playpen. Over the ensuing years she continued caring for future generations of those children. At the age of 94, Freda sold her business for over $2 million dollars.
Freda is survived by four children, Sandra Aman (Ron), Steve Sanders (Denise), Sherry Moston, and Carolyn Sanchez (Elliot), nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Carolyn Jean Morgan, a brother, Jim McInturf (Barbara), and her precious fur baby Lilly. She was predeceased by her husband, James Sanders, a son, Jimmie Sanders, her parents, and two brothers Bill and Dean Workman.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 12 to 12:45 pm. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm in the Rogers and Breece Chapel with Pastor Troy Wiley officiating. She will be laid to rest at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, NC following the service.
Arrangements by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
