Harry James Sherrill, Sr., a remarkable individual whose journey began in Fayetteville, NC, on January 22, 1945, peacefully departed this world on the morning of December 7, 2024, at his beach house in Little River, SC.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn Fincher, and his siblings, James Jr., Charles, David, Betty Edna, Sarah, Donnie, and Alton. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Harry James Sherrill, Jr. (Kim Hines Sherrill), and their two daughters, Jensen Birkholz (Jimmy) and Kendall Montgomery (Tyler), and Rodney Wayne Sherrill (Kimberly Smith Sherrill) and their children, Annabeth Sherrill, Ellison-Charles Sherrill, Cameron Sherrill, and Dustin Brewington. Also left to mourn are his great grandchildren, Emmit and Deacon Birkholz, River and Rylan Sherrill, and Blayne Kirby. He is survived by his brother, Bobby Sherrill of FL, his sister, Linda Swain of FL, and the mother of his sons, Lorraine Sherrill.
Born and raised in Fayetteville, Harry attended Massey Hill Elementary before moving to Florida. He proudly graduated from Miami Jackson High School, where he excelled as a Varsity Football Letterman and played in the State Championship at the Orange Bowl. Following his high school achievements, Harry entered the U.S. Air Force, dedicating eight years to serving his country before returning to Fayetteville.
In 1972, Harry embarked on a successful 40-year career in Real Estate. He served as a Broker and General Manager for prestigious firms such as Riddle Floyd and Godwin, Prudential John Koenig Realtors, and United Resorts. Eventually, he became the proud owner of RE/MAX Homeowners Ltd., building one of the top real estate operations in Fayetteville.
His dedication to the real estate profession earned him the title of Board President of the Fayetteville Association of Realtors, along with the esteemed Realtor of the Year honors. Harry leaves behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, mentorship, and a profound impact on the real estate industry.
Harry’s retirement in 2011 allowed him to indulge in his love for the beach, annual trips to Florida, Maine, and Alaska. However, his most treasured moments were the special times spent with his grandchildren, close friends, and the unforgettable trips with his boys.
A memorial service will be held at Epicenter Church in Fayetteville, NC on Friday, January 19th, 2024, at 12 PM with Pastor Mark Knight officiating. Following the service, the family invites friends to join them at Highland Country Club to share cherished memories, offer condolences, and find comfort in each other’s company
