
A forest fire in eastern Cumberland County endangered several homes and spread over an estmated 100 acres Tuesday evening, according to a county news release.
Theย Vander and Cedar Creek fire departments were dispatched to the fire at 4918 Dudley Road about 4 p.m. Tuesday, the release said.
The firefighters said 10 homes in the area were evacuated.
More than 30 emergency units were at the scene, including nearly a dozen fire departments from Cumberland and Bladen counties; the Cumberland County Sheriffโs Office; Cumberland County Animal Services; the N.C. Forest Service; State Highway Patrol; and the N.C. Department of Transportation, according to the release.
Dudley Road was closed between McKinnon and Mack Simmons roads. Residents are urged to avoid the area, the release said.
Smoke should be expected in the area for an extended period of time, the release said. Cumberland County Emergency Services is assisting with the response.
