Jerrie Rebecca Johnson Greene, 85, of Statesville, passed away on July 24, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Jerrie, the daughter of Charles Henry Johnson Jr. and Ruth Britt Johnson, was born November 11, 1940, in Cumberland County, NC.

Jerrie attended Flora Macdonald College, thus in 1962, became one of first graduates of St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Education from UNC Chapel Hill.

Jerrie had a long career in education, including working as the Director of Special Education in Baden County and holding an administrative position at the NC Department of Public Instruction. Her last years of teaching were at Methodist University in Fayetteville.

Jerrie is survived by her sister Carolyn Johnson Newcomer, brother Charles Henry Johnson III; nieces Susan Newcomer Wade, Nancy Newcomer Boring, Emily Johnson Parker; stepchildren Laurel Greene, Sharon Greene, Yolanda Greene Ferrari, Vernon Greene Jr., Carmen Greene; treasured great-nieces, great-nephews, and loving friends.

Jerrie was preceded in death by her husband Colonel Vernon Edward Greene.

Jerrie was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesville, where she served on the Alter Guild and Daughters of the King.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 28th, at Trinity Episcopal Church, with Reverend Paul Anderson officiating.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, St. Paulโ€™s in the Pines (Fayetteville), and Iredell Christian Ministries.

Jerrie will be remembered for her devotion to her faith, for her love of family and friends, and for a lifetime of service to others.
