Darwin Hairr was born and raised in Sampson County where he graduated from Clinton High School.  Later, he moved to Fayetteville and started his career as the maintenance superintendent of W.S. Wellons Realty where he was employed for over 50 years.

He was one of the original founding members of Northwood Temple Church where he served as a board member.  He was also Sunday School Superintendent for over 50 years.

Darwin was known for being a dedicated husband to his late wife Jackie.  He was also a loving father to his 3 sons to whom he instilled a good work ethic.  To his grandchildren, he was better known as “Papa” and this was his favorite title of his life.

He is survived by his three sons:  Jeffrey and wife Sara of Hope Mills, Jonathan and wife Tina of Cary, and Jason and wife Hollie of Fayetteville and his 4 grandchildren:  Abby, Jack, Lathen and Lila.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Northwood Temple. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Northwood Temple. The burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
