John Edward Rhoden, Jr., 97, passed away at home, on July 25, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Rhoden, Sr. & Lucy Belle Rhoden; his first wife, of 44 years, Shirley T. Rhoden; his second wife, of 4 years, Marg C. Rhoden; his sons, Jon Rhoden and Edward Rhoden; his grandson, Josh Rhoden; and his 11 brothers and sisters.
John is survived by his youngest son, Phillip (Alicia) Rhoden, of Hope Mills, NC; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and his 2 great-great grandchildren.
John was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in being a father and grandfather. A devout Christian, he lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and love, always caring deeply for those around him. John proudly served his country in the United States Army for 30 years as a member of the 173rd Airborne. During his distinguished military career, he served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Of all his duty stations, Panama remained his favorite and held a special place in his heart. John was truly a blessing to everyone who knew him. His warm hugs, gentle spirit, and loving presence will be remembered and cherished by all whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cape Fear Valley Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they gave to John during his time of need.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Rogers & Breece Funeral home, starting at 11:30 am. The family will be welcoming guests and friends prior to the service from 10am โ 11:30am. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Johnโs memory to Cape Fear Valley Hospice (CFV Hospice) or to Balm In Gilead Family Counseling Ministries (Balm in Gilead )
