
A man has been charged in the May 26 shooting death of a 19-year-old woman in the 3000 block of Bragg Road.
Ayanna Thompson, 19, was shot and killed at about 11:45 p.m. on May 26, according to a Police Department news release. Officers found her body, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Levon Campbell, 27, was arrested Thursday morning in the 900 block of Dickson Road in Riegelwood, the news release said. He is charged with first-degree murder; discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling; possession of a firearm by a felon; and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
His arrest was a joint effort of the Fayetteville Police Department’s Gang Unit, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Homicide Unit, as well as the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
Campbell was held at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
