(Editor’s note: This report has been updated with the identity of the shooting victim.)
A 37-year-old man was shot dead Monday afternoon in the roadway on Schmidt Street, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
The shooting was reported about 4 p.m. Monday in the 4900 block of Schmidt Street, a police news release said.
Officers found a man lying in the road suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
The victim was identified as Joseph Walton, 37.
Police said the shooting does not appear to be a random incident.
