Martin Luther King Jr. Day is next Monday, Jan. 20. While the 31st Annual MLK Day Parade scheduled for Saturday has been postponed (with plans to be rescheduled in early February), there are a number of other events this weekend for you to partake in.
Here’s how the Fayetteville community is celebrating the legacy of the civil rights leader.

- 32nd Annual MLK Worship Service
- Time: Sunday, 5 p.m.
- Location: Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (5422 Raeford Road)
- 32nd Annual MLK Brunch
- Time: Monday, 10 a.m.
- Location: Crown Complex (1960 Coliseum Drive)
- MLK Celebration and Breakfast
- Time: Monday, 9 a.m.
- Location: Saint Luke AME Church (522 Hillsboro St.)
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Run
- Time: 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
- Location: Freedom Memorial Park (618 Hay St.)
Government closures
- Cumberland County Schools
- Cumberland County – government offices
- Cumberland County Courthouse and court services
- Cumberland County Solid Waste – landfills and container sites
- Cumberland County public libraries
- Cumberland County Animal Services
- Fayetteville Police Department – main police station front lobby and records unit
- City of Fayetteville Solid Waste Division
- Monday’s garbage and yard waste will be collected Wednesday.
- Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation – administrative offices
- Recreation Centers will operate on the abbreviated schedule of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Parks, trails and green space areas will remain open and accessible to the public.
- Fayetteville Regional Airport
- Airport administration officers will be closed. Contact airlines directly for flight schedules
- Fayetteville Area System of Transit – administrative offices
- PWC offices
- Hope Mills – government offices
