NC MedAssist, a nonprofit organization that dispenses over-the-counter and prescription medications to the uninsured and low-income individuals, is hosting a free pharmacy event on Friday, May 2.
The nonprofit will hand out free over-the-counter medicines at the John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex in Fayetteville from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Available medicines include allergy, cough and cold, digestive, pain relief and vitamins. The nonprofit will provide adult and children’s versions.
All residents, regardless of income, can access the medicines. No appointment or registration is required. While no ID is required to obtain medicine, attendees must be 18 or older.
The free pharmacy event is part of NC MedAssist’s Mobile Free Pharmacy program. Through collaborations with other community organizations, the program provides low-income residents with free over-the-counter medicine. Alliance Health, the county’s public behavioral health care management organization, partnered with NC MedAssist to put on Friday’s free pharmacy event.
NC MedAssist’s free mobile pharmacy events also help the organization determine who might qualify for its Free Pharmacy Program. The Free Pharmacy Program offers free prescription medications to uninsured North Carolinians and those who make at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level. The program is available statewide, and residents can enroll online.
NC MedAssist’s website said it dispensed over $61.6 million in prescription and over-the-counter medicine in the fiscal year 2024 through programs like the Free Pharmacy and Mobile Free Pharmacy programs. The nonprofit served 67,104 North Carolinians, mostly through over-the-counter free medicine events.
