Good morning. Earlier this week, an impassioned and sometimes teary-eyed Kirk deViere delivered his State of the County Address.
During his 23-minute speech, the chair of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners highlighted issues facing the county: public safety, safe drinking water, care for the needy, childhood and adult education, ties to Fort Bragg, and opportunities for growth and success.

NC MedAssist, a nonprofit organization that dispenses over-the-counter and prescription medications to uninsured and low-income individuals, is hosting a free pharmacy event this Friday. 🚰 The Fayetteville Public Works Commission — the city-owned utility providing water, sewer and electrical service to much of the Fayetteville area — voted earlier this year to raise water and sewer rates and fees over the next two years. The first part of the increase begins today, with a 5.5% boost in water and sewer prices. Separately, the PWC’s electricity prices are also scheduled to rise 2% today — an increase that was unanimously approved last year.
