Good morning. Today is Election Day, and heated local races may drive voters to the polls in what normally is a low turnout affair as Cumberland County’s nine municipalities pick their next leaders.
We’ll be tracking races in Fayetteville, Hope Mills, and Spring Lake, and plan to stop by precincts to hear from voters and candidates throughout the day.

Welcome to CityView Today. In today’s newsletter, a former custodian for Cumberland County Schools has filed a federal lawsuit against the school district over its commercial driver’s license rule. The custodian is alleging the policy discriminates against employees with disabilities. Also, early voting for the municipal elections ended on Saturday. Cumberland County election officials reported a significant increase in voter turnout compared to 2023; more below on what’s behind the early voting uptick and what that could mean for the general election today. Plus, in case you missed it, we sent out questionnaires to all candidates running in elections in Fayetteville, Hope Mills, and Spring Lake.
