Paul Delano Bass, 92, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Fayetteville, NC, on November 24, 1933, to the late Claude and Margaret Nell (Thompson) Bass. 

Paul was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC. Paul loved to play football, basketball, and especially baseball. He played in many softball leagues at Lamon Street Park. Paul also loved to hunt and fish. For many years, he and the family made precious memories at Holden Beach. Fishing, boat riding, and playing “Spades” around the kitchen table were favorite pastimes. 

Paul graduated from Stedman High School and served in the army for over 3 years.  During his service overseas, he met the love of his life, Anne Parkinson, while she was working for NATO.  Paul and Anne were married in Izmir, Turkey, on March 11, 1956, and just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past March.

Paul and Anne returned to NC where Paul worked and earned an Associate’s degree from Campbell University. He continued his education receiving a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, and an Educational Specialist’s degree from East Carolina University. Paul worked as a principal in the NC Public School System for 33 years.  After touching the lives of many students and teachers, he retired in July, 1989. He then worked for a few years for an insurance company.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Margaret Nell (Thompson) Bass; his brothers, Joseph Van Buren Bass (Buren), Robert Thompson Bass (Shorty), Rupert Glenn Bass (Glenn), and Colon Edward Bass (Ted). 

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Anne; his children, Cindy Stanbridge (Mike), Debbie Radford (Robert), Brian Bass, and Paula Davis; his grandchildren, Jeremy Hall (Danielle), Jason Hall (Shannon), Cole Radford (Makenzie), Kassie Radford and Katharine Lopez; his great-grandchildren, Madisyn Brandstedter (Matt), Riley Hall, Haylee Hall, Gracelyn Hall, and Gabriel Lopez; and his great-great-grandchildren, Lucas Brandstedter and Theodore Brandstedter.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3934 Sunnyside School Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28312. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
