
The memories of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence will be kept alive during the Remember My Name vigil on at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, on the steps of the Cumberland County Courthouse in downtown Fayetteville, according to a news release.
The remembrance ceremony serves to raise community awareness as well as highlight resources for those facing violence, the release said.
The keynote speaker will be Charnessa L. Ridley, deputy director of the Council for Women and Youth Involvement. Retired Chief District Court Judge Beth Keever will read aloud the names of those whose lives were lost to domestic violence in North Carolina over the past year, the release said.
Other ceremony participants scheduled to appear include Chief District Court Judge Toni S. King, Fort Liberty Garrison Commander U.S. Army Col. John Wilcox, and the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus, the release said.
Remember My Name is organized by the Cumberland County District Court, the CARE Center Family Violence Program, Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Cumberland County Sheriffโs Office, Fayetteville Police Department, Hope Mills Police Department, Army Community Services, Legal Aid of North Carolina and the Phoenix Center, the release said.
