Retired 1st Sgt. Carlos Jaramillo Jr, age 85, of Fayetteville, NC passed away August 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Born to the late Carlos and Marina Jaramillo in Antonito, Colorado. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Rubel Jaramillo, Mercy Besch, Elmer Jaramillo, and Nadine Lopez.

He joined the US Army in 1958, a highly decorated Special Forces soldier, in the Vietnam War under RAKKASANS, 187th Airborne Regiment Combat Team.

In retirement, after 21 years of service to the Armed Forces he continued his career in South America with other government agencies.

Carlos is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria Jaramillo; daughter, Monika Jaramillo of Greensboro, NC; son, Carlos Jaramillo III and wife Tara of Roseboro, NC; Grandsons, Stephen Jackson and wife, Madison and Alexander Jaramillo. Great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Madelynn, Dawson, and Ellie Mae; Sisters, Velma States of Denver, Colorado and Nora Gonzales of Antonito, Colorado.

Visitation will be September 17, 2024; 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home followed by burial at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society or Special Forces Association.

  1. I am Rich Gomez, first cousin to Carlos through his Mother and my Mother. I am also retired Army, we served together in roughly the period of time and we ever in proximity to each other during our time in service, I served from 1962-83, Vietnam in 68-69, 4 tours in Germany and at Ft Campbell in 73-76.
