Robert “Bobby” F. Berckman, Sr., 80, of Morehead City passed away on September 22, 2024.

Born June 9, 1944, to the late Edward Frank Berckman and Mattie S. Berckman in Dunn, NC.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 60 years, Judy Pegram Berckman, his high school sweetheart; his son, Robert F. Berckman, Jr. of Morehead City, NC; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Lois Shaw of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Bobby was a member of the First Baptist Church and Westminster Presbyterian Churches in Fayetteville, NC. After losing his father at the age of five, Bobby spent much of his childhood with his paternal grandparents in downtown Fayetteville, where his step-grandfather served as a Fayetteville police officer. He attended various schools, including Alexander Graham, a private school in the NC mountains, and Massey Hill High School, where he was active in sports. A passionate fisherman throughout his life, Bobby also coached little league sports while his son was growing up. He took on the challenge of coaching an expansion football team, leading them to win the Fayetteville City-County championship.

Bobby was known for his warm and welcoming spirit, strong faith, and deep love for his family. He spent his career in construction, always dedicated to seeing any project through to completion. For 15 years, he bravely faced Parkinson’s disease with a fierce stoicism and maintained his sense of humor until the end. His greatest passions were his family, animals, racing, and fishing.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 11 to 11:45 am. A funeral service will be held at 12 pm in the Rogers and Breece Chapel. Burial to follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Park.
