Tropical Storm Chantal came ashore in South Carolina on Sunday morning, the National Weather Service said, and its predicted track takes it between Fayetteville and Raeford as of 10:40 a.m.
The area continues to have a flash flood watch until 6 a.m. Monday.
Earlier Sunday, most of Fayetteville was predicted to get 1 inch to 1.5 inches of rain over the next few days. The northeast corner of Cumberland County, including western Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and Spring Lake, were predicted to get up to 2 inches of rain. The Raeford area and Hoke County were predicted to receive 2 to 3 inches of rain.
In a “best case” scenario, Fayetteville would get only 0.5 inches of rain. In a “worst case” scenario, Fayetteville would get 2.1 inches.
Isolated tornadoes are possible through Sunday evening, the briefing says, with a marginal risk.
