MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (46-62, 16-26) were held to just one run Sunday evening at Pelicans Ballpark after scoring 15 on Saturday night and fell 8-1 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (62-45, 23-19) in the series finale.

The Pelicans end the season series having won 11 of 12 against the Woodpeckers.

Myrtle Beach grabbed a pair of runs in the first inning against Andrew Taylor (L, 4-7) and maintained the lead throughout. Jefferson Rojas and Parker Chavers delivered RBI singles in that frame before a Taylor balk extended the Pelicans’ edge to 3-0 in the third.

Fayetteville got its lone run in the sixth when Jeron Williams scored on a wild pitch by Myrtle reliever Eligio Paredes (W, 1-0). Williams finished the game with two hits, a walk, and a stolen base along with the run scored.

Alimber Santa kept the Pelicans’ offense in check over his first two innings in relief but surrendered a David Avitia sacrifice fly in the seventh to bring the score to 4-1. Santa got into trouble in the eighth by walking four Myrtle Beach hitters, and all four came around to score and put the game out of reach.

The Woodpeckers return home on Tuesday for a six-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats.

The first pitch for the opener at Segra Stadium is at 7:05 p.m.
