The descendant congregation of Long Street Presbyterian Church will host the annual reunion in celebration of the historic Argyle community at 11 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Fort Liberty Public Affairs Office.
The reunion is co-sponsored by Fort Liberty Cultural Resources Management and the Garrison Religious Support Office.
Military personnel and the public are invited to participate in the worship service and a picnic lunch on the church grounds, the release said. This yearโs reunion will feature historical highlights of early settlement in the region.
People of all faiths are welcome, the release said.
Participants are encouraged to bring a potluck dish to share for the picnic.
Tours of the adjacent church cemetery, which features markers dating from the late 1770s, will be offered.
One of two antebellum churches on Fort Liberty, Long Street Presbyterian Church was established about 1758 by Highland Scot immigrants, the news release said. The current structure, completed in 1847 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the oldest standing structure on Fort Liberty.
The church has no electricity or climate controls, so people who attend are advised to dress appropriately for warm weather. Parking for the elderly and people with disabilities is available near the church with assistance from the Chaplainโs Office.
Patrons entering Fort Liberty through an access control point should review installation access procedures before their arrival to avoid delays.
