Fayetteville Area System of Transit will resume charging fares for all fixed-route and paratransit services starting July 1.
The fares will return at the same rate as before March 2020, when they were suspended in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release.
An adult passenger can expect to pay $1.25 per ride, but rates vary for youths and passengers qualifying for discounts, the release said.
Passes can be purchased at the Transit Center at 505 Franklin St. and at Carlie C’s at Eutaw Village, Bordeaux, Riley Road and Cedar Creek shopping centers.
Multiple options of FAST passes are available at Carlie C’s. They include five-day, five-day discount, 30-day, 30-day discount, 30-day youth, Summer Fun passes, FASTTrac! 10 Ride, and FASTTrac! 20 Ride passes, the release said.
Riders should have their fares prepared before boarding the bus and provide exact change. Drivers do not handle cash and make change.
City employees can continue to ride fare-free by displaying their city identification badge.
“FAST was among many transit agencies in the nation to suspend fares in order to limit unnecessary interactions between riders and operators,” said FAST Director Tyffany Neal.
Over the past three years, FAST implemented safety measures and procedures such as rear-door boarding and sanitizing vehicles and facilities daily, the release said.
FAST is encouraging staff and customers to wear masks in FAST facilities and vehicles, but they are not mandatory.
