The Athletes of the Week in Cumberland County high schools excelled on the volleyball court and the football field.
- Kenzie Bagley, Gray’s Creek, volleyball: Bagley had 25 service points in a row with 16 service aces against Douglas Byrd. She also had 14 assists. Against Lumberton, she had 16 assists and two kills.
- Jeremiah Melvin, Cape Fear, football: In Cape Fear’s game with Wilmington Laney, Melvin had nine receptions for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
- Also nominated: Kate Wilson, Cape Fear, golf.
