An inmate charged with drug possession was found dead in her cell at the Cumberland County Detention Center, according to a news release.
Tara Charles, 38, of Raeford, was found unresponsive about 7:15 a.m. Thursday in her single-person cell, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Her death is under investigation.
Records show that Charles was jailed on April 24 on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, the release said.
