Jimmie Covington Taylor, 94, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Hope Mills Retirement Home.

Born November 5, 1931, in Rockingham, North Carolina, Jimmie was the daughter of the late Mary and Jim Covington. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Alfred “Gene” Taylor; her sisters, Helen Covington Thompson and Betty “Blue” Covington Maples; and her great-granddaughter, Layla Grace Kamar.

Jimmie shared a wonderful life with Gene, whom she married as a young woman. As a military wife, she moved with her family from state to state before settling in Fayetteville in 1964. Together they raised their two children, Alfred “Al” Taylor (Dianne) and Marsha Taylor Bullard (Clay), and built a home filled with love and family memories.

Family was always at the heart of Jimmie’s life. She adored her four grandchildren, Justin, Hollie (Harrison), Kellie (Jimmy), and Candace, and delighted in her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Norah, Eden, Evelyn, Anthony, and Ava. She treasured the time she spent with each generation of her family.

For 50 years, Jimmie dedicated herself to her career as a beautician and proud owner of Jimmie’s Beauty Shop in Fayetteville. She began serving customers at her salon on Owen Drive before eventually moving her business into her home, first on Roxie Avenue and later on Bittersweet Drive. Known for her perms and expert roller sets, Jimmie took great pride in her work. But her salon was about much more than hair. It was a gathering place where friendships flourished, conversations flowed, and customers became like family. Many of her most loyal clients were also dear friends from church who returned week after week, some for decades.

Jimmie was a devoted member of Village Baptist Church from 1963 until her passing. She cherished her church family and the lifelong friendships she formed through Sunday school, Bible studies, fellowship, and beach trips. Her faith and her relationships were a source of joy throughout her life.

Hardworking and independent, Jimmie was also a wonderful cook and baker, especially remembered for her homemade coconut cakes. She loved welcoming people into her home and always had magazines, drinks, and snacks ready for company. She might offer a cup of coffee, a glass of sweet tea, or something sweet, but most of all she wanted everyone to sit down and visit for a while. Affectionate, direct, and gracious, Jimmie will be remembered for the warmth and hospitality she shared so freely.

Her life leaves a lasting legacy of faith, determination, friendship, and love. She will be deeply missed by her family and by the many people whose lives she touched.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Village Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Nicholas Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park-West on Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many family members and friends who surrounded Jimmie with love, kindness, and support throughout her life. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Linda Young for her compassionate care, gentle spirit, and gracious presence in Jimmie’s life.
