A Fayetteville man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot another man in the abdomen in the area of Briar Circle on Tuesday morning.
Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Departmentβs Aggravated Assault Unit are investigating the shooting, according to a news release.
The shooting was reported about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officers found a man lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, the release said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported in stable condition.Β
Investigators said the victim was involved in an altercation with an associate, Aalias McClure Ellis, 22, of Fayetteville. Ellis fled on foot before police officers arrived at the scene, the release said.Β
Ellis later returned to the area of Briar Circle and was arrested without incident.
Ellis is charged with attempted first-degree murder; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure; and possession of firearm by a felon, the release said. He was held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond for the attempted murder and a $50,000 secured bond for the other charges.
