The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a flash flood warning for northwestern Cumberland County until 5:45 p.m. today.Just after 4 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, according to the Weather Service’s website.
Between 1 and 3 inches of rain had fallen near Bonnie Doone, and flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin soon.Locations included in the warning are Fayetteville, Fort Liberty, Bonnie Doone, and flood-prone Spruce Street at Little Cross Creek, according to the website.
Scattered to numerous showers and storms through Wednesday night are expected to produce locally heavy downpours that may result in flooding. The strongest storms may produce wind gusts up to 45 or 50 mph Wednesday evening.
The forecast calls for a 60% chance or rain Wednesday afternoon, with amounts between a quarter to a half inch possible.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight, mainly before 10 p.m., according to the Weather Service. The chance of precipitation is 70%.
On Thursday, the chance of rain is 40% with a high temperature near 90.
The Friday forecast calls for a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. with a high near 94.
