A Cumberland County deputy shot a person wielding a knife Tuesday evening after responding to a domestic call on Camden Road in Fayetteville, according to a statement posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:33 p.m. on November 25 and arrived on scene minutes later. In the Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office said deputies encountered someone armed with a knife. “The suspect lunged towards the Deputy with the knife. Subsequently, the deputy used deadly force,” the statement read.

Deputies provided first aid until medical personnel arrived, and the person was transported to a medical facility for treatment.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will lead the inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting. 

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review, according to the Sheriff’s Office. 

There is no threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available. 

At the time of publication, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office public information officers had not responded to a phone call or email seeking more information.
