A section of Raeford Road near Highland Country Club in Fayetteville will close for eight months starting April 14 while the N.C. Department of Transportation replaces a culvert underneath the road.ย
The project was initially scheduled to start on March 31, but due to a utility conflict, the work will now begin on April 14, NCDOT said.
The 7-foot-wide concrete culvert that drains Branson Creek underneath Raeford Road was built in the 1940s, and it needs to be replaced, NCDOT said. The new Branson Creek culvert will improve drainage for the road.
The section of Raeford Road will close in both directions of the culvert until work is completed.

Message boards announcing the closure have been placed and turned on, according to NCDOT.
Mountain Creek Contractors Inc. of Mount Pleasant won a $1 million bid in December to replace the culvert. The road is expected to reopen with the new culvert in November. Travelers should plan accordingly when following detour signs, expect a longer commute and be cautious when traveling near the work site, NCDOT said.
Update: This article has been updated to reflect the project’s new start date of April 14.

While Raeford Road will be closed, I wonder if the DOT would consider some repaving. The road is in terrible condition in the area beyond the culvert going toward Rush Road.
