The Cumberland County tax office is accepting real property tax appeals for the 2023 tax year from taxpayers who own or control taxable real property., according to a news release from the county.

Requests for a hearing before the Board of Equalization and Review must be made in writing and received on or before the board’s adjournment date of May 24. 

Requests can be sent by mail to Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302 or by email to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov.
Appeal forms can be downloaded from the tax administration website at cumberlandcountync.gov/departments/tax-group/tax by clicking on the “forms and publications” tab on the left side of the web page. Appeal forms may also be requested by mail or email at taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov, the release said.

Completed appeal forms must be received by mail to Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302 or emailed to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov on or before the date of adjournment of the board, the release said.

Appeals mailed to Tax Administration for the Board of Equalization and Review must be postmarked no later than May 24 to be considered timely. Forms may also be placed in the secure drop box outside the Cool Spring Street entrance of the courthouse. Signed appeals forms may also be faxed to 910-223-3343 or 910-678-7582. Taxpayers who appeal their property values will be contacted by an appraiser, the release said.  If the appeal goes to a hearing before the board, the taxpayer will be contacted by the appraiser and notified by letter stating the date the appeal will be heard.

Property owners are encouraged to provide supporting evidence for consideration. Examples of evidence include appraisals, sales of similar properties in the neighborhood, cost estimates of structural repairs or pictures of the property showing other than typical conditions. This information will be considered to determine any effect on value established per the 2017 schedule of values, the release said.
