Donors are encouraged to help keep the blood supply from falling short during blood drives in August.
Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center is open for donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and the third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a news release.
The center, which serves patients in Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett and Bladen counties, is at 3357 Village Drive in Bordeaux Shopping Center. The center also staffs two Bloodmobiles that will be open for donations on the upcoming dates:

Also, the Red Cross is offering two opportunities to give blood in August in Cumberland County:
- Thursday, Aug. 24, Carolina College of Biblical Studies, 817 S. McPherson Church Road, noon-6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 29, American Red Cross Sandhills Chapter, 807 Carol St., noon-6 p.m.
The Red Cross especially needs Type O negative, Type O positive, Type B negative and Type A negative blood donors, as well as platelet donors, the release said. For those who don’t know their blood type, making a donation is an easy way to find out that important personal health information, the release said.
