
Robert Williams Bloodworth, Jr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at his home after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Fayetteville on September 13, 1939, to the late Robert W. Bloodworth, Sr. and Nell Baker Bloodworth.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Ann (Dede) Bloodworth.
Robert is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shannon Bailey-Bloodworth and his children, Robert W. (Robin) Bloodworth, III and Susan (Susie) Nichole Bloodworth.
Robert received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot in the USAF. Robert had a distinguished career as a professional actor and an educator. As an actor in NYC, he worked extensively in television and film while also performing in regional theatres across the country. As an educator, Robert created and ran the theatre department at Coker College in SC between stints as an actor in NYC. He finished his academic career at Methodist University, where he was Associate Professor of Mass Communication and served as Department Chair until his retirement in 2006. During his years at Methodist, Robert performed at Cape Fear Regional Theatre and Ft. Bragg Playhouse. He acted in many Methodist University productions, serving as mentor for student actors. Robert was respected and admired as a professor by his students who affectionately referred to him as “Mr. B.”
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville with the Reverend Robert M. Alves officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parish hall of the church.
