Ronald “Ronnie” Maye, 80, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home. Born on July 9, 1944, in Wilmington, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Ervin Linwood Maye, Sr., and Nellie Van Davis Maye.
Ronnie dedicated 30 years of his life to Kelly Springfield (Goodyear), retiring in 2000. He played a vital role in establishing the Union, where his leadership and influence left a lasting impact on his colleagues. He was a proud and passionate NC State fan and an avid NASCAR enthusiast.
A devoted member of the Church of the Covenant in Spring Lake, Ronnie served faithfully as an elder for many years. His deep faith led him to be baptized twiceโfirst as a young Presbyterian and later, by choice, by being “dunked” in a river. His family and ancestors played a crucial role in rebuilding the church in 1909 after it was destroyed by fire, and his commitment to the church remained steadfast throughout his life.
Ronnie had a generous spirit and a heart for giving. He found great joy in tending to his chickens and sharing their eggs with his Sunday School class, fellow church members, family and friends. His kindness and willingness to bless others were evident in every aspect of his life.
A Master Mason for 42 years, Ronnie was a proud member of the Phoenix Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M. He was also active in the Jaycees and was honored as “Jaycee of the Year” for his service and dedication. His love for nature was evident in the time he spent feeding the deer that frequently visited his backyard.
Ronnie is survived by his daughter, Candace Maye McDermott and her husband Bob; his sister, Nancy Dean of Hope Mills; and his granddaughter, Leilani Haas. He is also survived by two very special neighbors who meant so much to him, Jerry and Lisa Dover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin “Sonny” Linwood Maye Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Covenant in Spring Lake, NC, with Rev. Bill Altman and Rev. Floyd Benfield officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 3:00 โ 5:00 PM at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrenโs Research Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital in honor of Ronnieโs generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Ronnie’s legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
