The Cumberland County Department of Social Services is providing a free box fan for eligible residents through the Fan Giveaway Program. The program provides relief for those without access to air conditioning during hot summer months, the Department of Social Services said in a news release.
Residents who fall below 200% of the poverty level and who have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over age 60, or with a heat-sensitive medical condition are eligible.
Residents are asked to come to the Department of Social Services to speak with a social worker and complete an assessment, the release said. Those who complete their assessment in person and are eligible will receive a fan the same day.
People unable to come into the agency should call 910-677-2388 or 910-677-2389 to speak with a social worker to have their assessment completed and they will be given a date, time and location for fan pick up, the release said.
The department is accepting donations of new box fans, the release said. Donors are asked to make an appointment to drop off fans at the Social Services building at 1225 Ramsey St. Call 910-677-2536.
