During their regular meeting Monday night, the Spring Lake Board of Commissioners emphasized the importance of community participation and engagement, urging residents to download and use the Town of Spring Lake app in an effort to make reporting issues — water leaks and outages, for instance — more efficient.

The app, which is free to download on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store, allows residents to check and pay their water bills, check the town’s event calendar, find sanitation schedules, have push notifications sent directly to their phones, and more.

Among its top intended uses, this app allows residents to report any issues or concerns, like water leaks or outages to the appropriate town departments, and receive real-time updates as work on these issues is completed.

“Yes, I know, another app. But this one allows you to communicate an issue, especially after hours,” Commissioner Marvin Lackman said.

Water outages have been a common issue in Spring Lake, as town officials work to repair water and sewer systems that have been neglected and fallen into disrepair over several decades.

Mayor Kia Anthony spoke briefly on the water infrastructure, the necessary repairs these systems need and the ongoing work to keep the system up and running for residents of the town.

“We have had multiple pipes burst and multiple leaks addressed. You’ve heard us say time and time again throughout last year that we are working on repairing dilapidated infrastructure. Our infrastructure is very, very worn.” Anthony said. “If you happen to have a leak, take a picture of it. If your water goes out, report the outage. Help us help you make this a better community.”

The next Spring Lake Board of Commissioners meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 at Spring Lake Town Hall, 300 Ruth St.
