A woman driver was killed when her vehicle with two children on board was struck by a man in a Jeep Cherokee who ran a red light, the Fayetteville Police Department reported.

The departmentโ€™s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash that occurred just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cliffdale and Rim roads, according to a police news release.

Investigators said a black 2018 Acura driven by Janeen Smith, 39, ofย Fayetteville, was traveling north on Rim Road and passed through a green light. Two juveniles were with Smith in the vehicle. ย 

A 2015 red Jeep Cherokee driven by Nathan Thomas Kellon II, 38, of Fayetteville, ran a red light and collided with Smithโ€™s vehicle. The impact pushed her vehicle about 100 feet from the intersection, the news release said.

Smith was taken to a hospital and died of her injuries.

The two children in her vehicle were taken to a hospital and reported in stable condition. ย 

Kellon was taken to a hospital and was reported in serious condition. ย
