With its animal shelter currently at capacity, Cumberland County Animal Services is waiving adoption fees through Aug. 31, according to a county news release.

Animal Services is participating in the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign this month.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, a โ€œTail End of Summer Paw-tyโ€ will be held at Animal Services headquarters, 4704 Corporation Drive. Food trucks, vendors and opportunities to adopt pets will be part of the celebration.ย

Adopted pets receive a rabies vaccination, deworming, flea treatment, combo vaccine, microchip, heartworm test (dogs only), and a spay or neuter operation, the news release said. Pet adoption fees are usually $100 for dogs and $70 for cats with these services included.ย

โ€œHopefully, we will be able to โ€˜clearโ€™ our shelter and find all of our wonderful dogs and cats, puppies and kittens loving forever homes,โ€ Animal Services Director Elaine Smith said in the release.

Animal Services is open for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. P0hoto identification is required, and pet adopters must be at least 18. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a limit of two pets per household, the release said. ย

The nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign is sponsored by NBC and local NBC affiliate WRAL-TV. Since its 2015 inception, itย has helped find homes for more than 860,000 pets.
