The Fayetteville Fire Department is equipping firefighters with four new medications, expanding its lifesaving services.
Firefighters added these medicines to the treatment protocol on July 1: albuterol, oral glucose, diphenhydramine (Benadryl), and acetaminophen (Tylenol).
The medications will help people suffering from breathing difficulties, diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions, high fevers and related illnesses, according to a city news release.
Nearly 70% of calls for service are medical in nature. The new medications will help improve the quality of care and outcomes with early access to life-saving therapy, the release said.
All Fayetteville firefighters are certified emergency medical technicians or EMTs and have been trained on how to use the added medicines, the release said.
