Traffic enforcement on Ireland Drive led to the arrest of two men on drug and weapons violations in separate cases, according to the law enforcement agencies.
On Wednesday, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit were conducting a speed enforcement operation in a school zone on Ireland Drive, according to a news release. One vehicle was recorded as speeding 51 miles per hour in a 25-mph school zone, a news release said.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. The vehicle struck another vehicle on Raeford Road and was later located at a nearby apartment complex, the release said.
Officers searched the vehicle and found two handguns, 337 grams of marijuana, and 226 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.
On Thursday, Kelvin Le’Bruce Grate, 19, was arrested by a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy on charges related to the case. Grate was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center and released under a $5,000 unsecured bond, the release said.
Grate is charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest and felony maintaining a vehicle for the storage and sale of drugs.
At about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 22, a Fayetteville police officer stopped a driver for a moving violation news release said.
Police said the driver was speeding in the 1400 block of Ireland Drive.
Torrian Dontez Knowles, 34, of Hope Mills, had a suspended license, according to a news release. The investigating officer saw an open container and drug paraphernalia in the front passenger area of the vehicle, the release said.
Before a search of the vehicle could be conducted, Knowles fled on foot but was captured.
Knowles is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon; possession of drugs; resisting a law enforcement office; speeding; driving while license revoked; and expired registration, according to a news release.
He was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
