One person died when a car flipped and landed upside down in a small creek off Galatia Church Road on Sunday, the Fayetteville Police Department said in a release.

Police identified the driver as 61-year-old Eric Brandon. Brandon lost control of his vehicle sometime after 10 a.m. while traveling on Galatia Church Road. His vehicle struck a culvert and landed upside down in a small creek, the Police Department said in the release.  

Brandon’s body was found inside the vehicle when it was recovered, the release said.

Officers were sent to the area just before 3 p.m. for a report of a vehicle in water.

The area of Galatia Church Road and Stoney Point Road was closed for several hours.
